La municipalité de Sao Paulo a adopté une loi (Lei Municipal 15.374 / 2011) interdisant la distribution (gratuite ou en vente) de sacs en plastique aux clients à des fins d'emballage ou de transport de marchandises acquises dans les établissements commerciaux de la ville, et encourageant l'utilisation de sacs réutilisables.
