Welcome Jean André from Haiti

April 2, 2010

Jean Andre Victor, HaitiDear friends,

This week we warmly welcome our latest ELAW Fellow, Jean André Victor from Haiti.

Jean André is an environmental attorney, an agronomist, and a law professor.  He founded the Fondation Hatienne de L'Environnement (Haitian Environmental Foundation) and has worked with the Environmental Monitoring and Coordinating Unit of the United Nations Development Programme.

Jean André will be with us for three months.  He will study English, complete work on Haiti's first book of environmental laws, and collaborate on our work to protect biodiversity in the Caribbean.

The situation in Port au Prince is incredibly difficult and pulling together Jean André's Fellowship was a challenge.  Many thanks to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the U.S. State Department, and the University of Oregon's American English Institute for making this Fellowship possible.

Sincerely,

Maggie Keenan
