ELAW partner Ritwick Dutta

In theory, EIAs are supposed to help communities make good decisions about the environment. But that theory breaks down when an EIA is fraudulent!

Clean Air for Malaysia

July 11, 2007

Dear Friends,

We are thrilled to report a stirring victory in Malaysia. Our Malaysian partners -- lawyers with the Consumer Association of Penang (CAP) -- have been working for years with citizens of the community of Broga to protect their air quality from a huge proposed incinerator. They filed a petition to the High Court to stop construction, and last week the Malaysian government announced that it is canceling the incinerator and will instead focus on reducing wastes!
