ELAW Fellowship Program: Welcoming Grassroots Advocates

This spring ELAW hosted visitors from Mexico and Slovakia and this summer is pleased to host our current ELAW Fellow from the Dominican Republic.

For 20 years, the ELAW Fellowship Program has welcomed dozens of grassroots advocates to Eugene for individually tailored opportunities to collaborate and build skills to better protect communities and the environment. This spring we hosted ELAW Fellows from Mexico and Slovakia, and this summer we are pleased to host our current ELAW Fellow from the Dominican Republic.

ELAW Fellowships Unforgettable

ELAW Fellows are doing great work!  In February, we welcomed Francis Colee from Liberia, Kwesi Instiful from Ghana, and Merab Barbakadze from Georgia.  In March, we welcomed Mariana Méndez from Panama and Jean André Victor from Haiti.  ELAW Fellows dedicate their lives to seeking justice for the world’s most impoverished communities.  Before returning to Tblisi, Merab shared a common sentiment: “I feel myself charged with new positive energy, skills, and knowledge!” Read more about our recent Fellows in the following.

Volunteer Power!

Volunteer Power
Volunteers and interns contributed hundreds of hours in 2009 to make ELAW’s work possible. They conducted scientific and legal research, translated communications, fixed computers, helped manage data, helped put on the 2009 ELAW Annual Meeting, and much more. Many many thanks to all of our volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you!

From Budapest to Eugene: ELAW Fellow Agnes Gajdics

She hikes, she ice skates, she blogs — but most importantly, Agnes Gajdics works long hours to protect the people and environment in her native Hungary.

ELAW Fellows: Making a Difference

Many grassroots advocates work in isolation, without access to the legal and scientific tools they need to protect communities and the environment. ELAW Fellowships provide ELAW partners with critical skills and resources, and enhance international collaboration so they no longer feel so alone. More than 100 grassroots advocates have traveled to Eugene to work with ELAW as Fellows.
