In this my second life, my task as an environmental activist has grown and been enriched, and tranformed to a permanent pacifism.

On September 4th I suffered an attempt against my life. I was in intensive care for 28 days, and survived four urgent surgeries. I am recuperating and I´m told my rehabilitation will take a year or more. I survived thanks to God, physical resistance and medical attention. I'm alive and committed to the biggest blessing of all: Nature.

In my heart I am grateful to the many people, and national and international institutions that have offered prayers, visits, gifts, economic support, declarations, opinion columns, and thousands of other signs of affection.

I forgive the mastermind behind this crime and the hired assassin who acted against me. Divine justice will arrive, and in the meantime the District Attorney’s Office will fulfill its mandate to fight impunity.

During these days, I thought carefully about my fight and ideals to defend nature, as the basis for the current and future survival of Guatemalan citizens in particular and for humanity in general. I am convinced that we should advance as a society constructing an ethical pact that will allow us to understand the importance of the environment as the basis for social, economic and global relations.

We have a duty and responsibility to the planet and to the survival of the human species, greater than the irrational logic of the free market, consumerism and short-term comfort without a long-term vision. Do not forget that the decisions made today provoke irreparable future environmental and social damage.

Make a pact with nature, founded in ethical, Christian humanism that will guarantee an active pacifism and an understanding that humanity depends on natural laws.

Ecology is essential for humanity. Water, air, trees and biological diversity are vital for human development. We need a pact with nature to build peace. I have faith that as a 21st century responsible society, we can achieve the goal of taking care of our common home: the planet earth and the blessings of nature.

For these reasons, in my second life, my work as an environmental activist is growing and has been enriched, my humanitarian work transformed into a permanent pacifism with humility and constant struggle, asking only this: we must live in peace with nature and harmony with our fellow humans.

GRACIAS, PAZ Y NATURALEZA

El pasado 4 de septiembre sufrí un atentado criminal que puso en riesgo mi vida. Permanecí en cuidados intensivos 28 días, superé cuatro cirugías urgentes. Ahora estoy en una recuperación y rehabilitación que requerirá un año. Sobreviví gracias a Dios, a la resistencia física y a la atención médica. Estoy vivo y comprometido con la más grande bendición dada: La naturaleza.

Mi corazón tiene gratitud hacia las personas e instituciones nacionales e internacionales por sus múltiples manifestaciones, oraciones, expresiones, visitas, presentes, apoyos económicos, mensajes, publicaciones, manifiestos, columnas de opinión y miles de muestras de cariño recibidas.

Tengo y ofrezco perdón a los autores intelectuales y al sicario, quienes actuaron en mi contra. La justicia divina llegará, mientras el Ministerio Público ejecuta su mandato, para que este crimen no quede impune.

En estos días reflexioné profundamente sobre mi lucha e ideales por la defensa de la naturaleza, que es la base para el desarrollo y la sobrevivencia actual y futura de la ciudadanía guatemalteca en particular y de la humanidad en general. Estoy convencido de que debemos avanzar como sociedad, en la construcción de un pacto ético, que permita asumir la importancia del ambiente, sustrato base en las relaciones sociales y económicas globales.

Tenemos la obligación y responsabilidad con el futuro del planeta y la sobrevivencia de la especie humana, más allá de esa irracional lógica del mercado, el consumo y el confort cortoplacista, sin visión a largo plazo. No olvidar que las decisiones económicas tomadas hoy, provocan irreparables daños ambientales y con ello, sociales a futuro. Construir un pacto con la naturaleza, fundamentado en el humanismo cristiano, esencialista y ético que garantice un pacifismo activo, para comprender que la humanidad está supeditada a las leyes naturales.

El entorno ecológico es esencial a la humanidad. Elementos como el agua, el aire, los árboles y la diversidad biológica son vitales para el crecimiento y desarrollo humano. Un pacto con la naturaleza, para construir y desarrollar la Paz. Tengo fe en que, como sociedad responsable, en el siglo XXI podemos lograr este reto para cuidar nuestra casa común: el planeta Tierra y en él la bendición que significa la naturaleza.

Por eso, en esta segunda vida, mi quehacer como activista ambiental, se amplía y enriquece transformando el trabajo humanitario, en un pacifismo permanente con humildad, actitud y lucha constante, pregonando que: ?Debemos vivir en paz con la naturaleza y en armonía con nuestros semejantes?
